Embracing New Beginnings: A September of Fresh Starts and Timeless Lessons

September always feels like a new chapter, doesn’t it? The air shifts, school buses roll out, and there’s a collective sense of starting fresh. For me, this month is about embracing new beginnings in both personal and professional life, and I’m excited to share some of the adventures and insights that lie ahead.
This September, I’ll be heading to Chip Conley’s American Elders Academy, which was recently named one of Time’s World’s Greatest Places. I can’t wait to dive into the experience with several of my vYve by Vayner friends, surrounded by wisdom and energy that promises to shape my journey ahead personally and professionally. The concept of being an “elder” in our society is evolving, and I’m eager to see how this academy reframes aging, not as a decline, but as an opportunity for reinvention. I believe we’re never too old to learn something new or to start over.
Speaking of new beginnings, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be kicking off my TikTok journey this month. As CEO of EarthKind, I’ve seen more than a few things that would leave most people shaking their heads in disbelief. There’s so much behind the scenes of running a business that is often left unsaid—until now! I’m going to share some of those untold stories with you on TikTok. Some of this stuff you simply can’t make up! But more than just the wild and unexpected, I hope these glimpses into my day-to-day will offer value and inspiration that you can apply to your own life and career. Benny and Jim are my two favorite (and often hilarious) bookends, so you’ll see a bit of them too.
In the spirit of new beginnings, I’m also reflecting on the legacy I want to leave behind, particularly as a grandmother. With Grandparents Day approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want my grandchildren to remember me. My greatest hope is that they all agree I was the funnest grandma ever, one who helped them see the awe and wonder in the world. Whether it’s a spontaneous adventure, a shared story, or a simple moment of joy, I want them to feel that spark of curiosity and love for life that I’ve tried to cultivate in my own journey.
September also brings the International Day of Peace, a day that resonates deeply with me. Peace, much like a new beginning, starts within and radiates outwards. In my work at EarthKind, peace isn’t just about creating harmony with nature; it’s also about cultivating a peaceful, positive environment in our homes, workplaces, and within ourselves. True peace is both a personal journey and a shared responsibility, and it’s something I’m committed to sparking, one small act of kindness at a time.
As I step into this month of new beginnings, I’m reminded of some little-known facts that have always fascinated me. Did you know that monarch butterflies are the only insect that migrates up to 3,000 miles to find a warmer climate? Just like the monarch, we too are capable of incredible journeys—sometimes across miles, sometimes across the terrain of our own hearts and minds. DYK the benefits of weight lifting help a person for life? I became one of the USA’s first bodybuilders when I learned this tidbit until the (now illegal) shots were requested.
Another tidbit? The balsam fir oil, the active ingredient in Fresh Cab, actually evolved to protect trees from being overrun by rodents. The same trees that shelter monarchs on their summer and winter homes have built up a natural inoculation to mice that has become a cornerstone of our business. Life has a funny way of connecting the dots, doesn’t it?
I hope you find my blog helpful, whether you’re learning from the mistakes I’ve made or the experiences I share. Life is full of new beginnings, and each one offers a chance to grow, to learn, and to see the world with fresh eyes. I’d love to hear your thoughts—what new beginnings are you embracing this September?
Wishing you a month filled with curiosity, peace, and the joy of fresh starts- so pack your backpack well! Would love for you to share what’s in your backpack!
Warmly,
